In India, We are even struggling for WIFI connection while Dubai is switching for the next generation technology for data transfer aka Li-Fi, entitled as the next generation of high-speed internet. It will be the first city in the world to get the high-speed Li-Fi service. What is even more interesting is that Li-Fi service will be transmitted through the city’s streetlights. Each of these high-end design lamps would cost around $1000.
What is High-Speed LIFI Service?
Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) is basically a technology that is similar to wifi. It is so far measured to be about 100 times faster than some Wi-Fi implementations, reaching speeds of 224 gigabits per second.
The basic difference between a wifi and high-speed LiFi service is that While Wi-Fi transmits data using radio waves, LiFi transmits data through LED light bulbs. With visible light, LiFi is able to transmit information at seriously high speeds. The only major worry about this tech is that since light cannot penetrate walls, it may not be as usual at homes!
The technology uses Visible Light Communication (VLC), a medium that uses visible light between 400 and 800 terahertz (THz). It works like an amazingly advanced form of Morse code – just like switching a torch on and off according to a certain pattern can send a secret message, flicking an LED on and off at extreme speeds can be used to write and transmit things in binary code.
Well, we are eagerly waiting for this digital revolution and this is definitely a good news for people in Dubai.
